Power Africa is a U.S. Government-led partnership that harnesses the collective resources of over 200 public and private sector partners to double access to electricity in sub-Saharan Africa. Power Africa’s goal is to add at least 30,000 megawatts (MW) of cleaner and more reliable electricity generation capacity and 60 million connections by 2030. Since 2013, Power Africa has delivered new or improved electricity to 172 million people across sub-Saharan Africa and connected 36 million homes and businesses to on- and off-grid energy solutions. Through Power Africa assistance, 145 power projects reached financial close, representing nearly 14,000 megawatts (MW). Of these, 85 are now online and generating more than 6,500 MW of cleaner and more reliable electricity, helping to mitigate climate change and end energy poverty on the continent.
