Siemens Energy's Transition Game

JOIN US IN THE SIEMENS ENERGY BOOTH B20 AT YES 2025 FROM 18TH TO 20TH JUNE

Where We Started:

In 2020, as the world retreated into the comfort of their homes amidst the pandemic, Madhu Basu, a Venture Client Manager (presently) at Siemens Energy, whilst spending time with her then three-year-old child sparked an inspiration — a vision to create a virtual game that would illustrate the complexities of energy transition. With the invaluable support of colleagues, including Philip McNally, a talented graduate, and Sabrina Mercer, the head of UK&I Strategy, Basu embarked on an exhilarating journey of innovation.

The development process was marked by countless iterations, where the team embraced cycles of learning and unlearning. They validated ideas, disproved assumptions, and pivoted their concept until they finally crafted their first game. This collaborative effort underscored the importance of teamwork and adaptability in the face of challenges.

Where We Are Now:

Today, the landscape of energy transition is recognized as a multifaceted challenge, and the team at Siemens Energy does not aim to oversimplify it through their game. Instead, they believe that engaging the entire population in this critical conversation is essential. To this end, they have embraced gamification as a vital first step to capture the attention of diverse audiences.

Since 2023, the team has been hosting Game-a-thons at prestigious events such as All Energy, ADIPEC, COP 28, and Abu Dhabi Business Week. This year, they are particularly excited to bring their game to the Youth Energy Summit (YES), where they hope to inspire young minds to join them on a transformative journey toward a sustainable future. Through this initiative, Madhu and her team aim to foster a deeper understanding of energy transition and encourage active participation in shaping a more sustainable world.”
